RADIO FIVE:
ONCE I WENT OUT AND NEVER CAME BACK
5 December 2024
If we want to know who we are, we must find a space where we can be without influence from the world around us. If we want to know who we are, we must go inside. However, what we think is directly influenced by our external conditions, and what we think ultimately determines who we believe ourselves to be. That is until we go beyond thought and deeper within ourselves than our conditioning has previously allowed.
I have been drawn to being alone for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, I envisioned my body as an island. Maybe it’s autism. Perhaps it’s just the fact that, for the most part, I have always enjoyed what I do. (After all, why else would we do something? Provided there’s not a victim, of course.) Whatever It may have been, I loved it. There were difficult times, however, when I desired the company and understanding of others. When those moments came about, the only solution I could find to soothe my suffering was to dive deeper into myself and revel in the mysteries, however joyous or strange that may be.
In that space, I eventually discovered my interconnectedness with every element in this universe, past, present, and future. When observing the interconnectedness of all things, I saw the one by whom all things rise and fall, that which neither moves nor is unmoved. In that moment of direct experience, my understanding merged into an ocean of stillness and of one.
Now, I look for creative, compassionate, inspiring, and loving ways to bridge my island with others so we can all know peace. Yes, I am an island, and I still love being here. There is nothing more potent than self-love. However, there is now a bridge for me to cross to you and for you to cross to me so we may share our love. When sharing love, we can, together, rest in the ocean that is one. If only for a moment...
and one moment of direct experience is all it takes!

“La Mar”
Eden Ahbez
I had a little boat
I called it Life
Once I went out
And never came back
All of a sudden
There was a big wind
And waves like mountains
Many things raced through my mind
And in the lonely chanting of the sea
I heard the echoes of eternity
And in the fantasy of cloud and sky
I saw the One who lives
While all things die
And I was swallowed by the sea
And lost in the deep
And washed up on the shore
When I awakened
The storm was over
And the sea was calm
It was strange and wonderful
Like seeing the world
And seeing through the world.
Like moving among the objects of the world
As though there were no objects to move among
As though there was no world
As though there was no mover
And when I told the people in the village
That I went out and never came back
They all laughed and called me The Wanderer
And I laughed with them
They didn’t know
They were the wanderers
And so I found my way
And found my home
on Eden’s Island
Many thing to many people
Come and live the enchanted life
Where time becomes eternity
And you will become a beachcomber, a dreamer
and dream untellable dreams
And wander no more...
On Eden’s Island
Where the wind has been telling the truth
Forever and ever and ever...
